London – The Society of Nepalese Engineers in UK (SONEUK) has strongly condemned the violent suppression of peaceful protests in Nepal.

In a joint statement issued by Er. Subodh Timilsina, Chairperson of SONEUK and Er. Manoj Pun, General Secretary said: “Nepal is in mourning today. At least 19 young people have been killed and over 400 injured during demonstrations in Kathmandu and other parts of the country. Many were shot above the waist, raising concerns about excessive and unjustified use of force by the authorities.”

The statement continued: “On behalf of SONEUK, we send our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and we stand with all those who are hurting in this moment of grief.”

It highlighted that the protests were led peacefully by young people, representing Nepal’s Gen-Z generation, who embody the country’s future. Instead of engaging with their voices, authorities responded with force, turning the streets into scenes of tragedy.

“These young people are more than protesters; they are students, dreamers, and builders of tomorrow’s Nepal. Their voices deserve respect, not bullets,” the statement added.

SONEUK has called on the Government of Nepal to listen to the protesters, act with compassion, and resolve the crisis urgently through peaceful and democratic means.
