Barista Dhan Captivates Winchester with Coffee Art

Winchester, UK: Thousands of coffee lovers are flocking to Winchester’s High Street to experience the artistry of barista Dhan Tamang, who has turned coffee-making into a spectacle.

With the recent openings of his two cafes, ‘Kavi’ and ‘Kneaded’, Dhan is drawing both locals and tourists eager to witness his award-winning latte art firsthand.

Dhan, 38, claims that ‘Kavi’ is one of South England’s largest coffee shops, serving nearly 1,200 customers over the weekend alone. Both cafes were launched with an investment of nearly £1 million.

His accolades include UK Latte Art Champion (2013–2017) and finalist at the 2016 World Latte Art Championship in Shanghai, China.
Between 2022 and 2023, he traveled to nearly 50 countries for coffee festivals and has worked as a global brand ambassador for several companies.

Using unique colors and designs in his technique, Dhan showcases his coffee art internationally.

His cafes not only serve coffee, sandwiches, and meals but also feature a coffee and cooking school at ‘Kavi’, attracting many students to learn the craft. Looking ahead, Dhan plans to open cafes in Nepal and Dubai in 2026.

Dhan is also an accomplished author. His first book, ‘Coffee Art’ (2017), is available in seven languages and has sold over 300,000 copies worldwide. His second book, ‘Coffee Art Masterclass’ (2024), features over 50 unique coffee designs.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Recognition

Born and raised in Kavre, Nepal, Dhan started his career with little experience in coffee. After working in Kuwait and Nepal, he moved to the UK in 2010 on a student-dependent visa.

Rising from bakery assistant to branch manager, he honed his skills and eventually won the UK Latte Art Championship five consecutive years, gaining international recognition.

In 2016, Dhan opened Coffee Lab UK in Winchester, expanding to five branches across South Hampshire.
Despite a £2 million loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, he persisted, launching ‘Kavi’ and ‘Kneaded’ in 2021, which are now thriving.
