Duchess El-Gamal Reflects on the Universal Themes of Rose’s Odyssey

नेपाली लिङ्क अक्टोबर २३, २०२६

British-based author, researcher and peace advocate Duchess El-Gamal has offered her literary reflections on Rose’s Odyssey: Tales of Love and Loss, a short story collection by Nepali author Dr Sangita Swechcha. Her perspective brings international attention to the collection and its exploration of human relationships and experiences.

Reflecting on the universal themes explored in the collection, Duchess El-Gamal writes:

Literature is one of humanity’s most powerful bridges. It allows us to cross borders, understand unfamiliar lives and recognise that, despite our differences, our deepest emotions are universal.

Through its exploration of love, loss, identity, migration and resilience, Rose’s Odyssey: Tales of Love and Loss reflects the experiences that unite humanity beyond nationality, culture and social boundaries.

The themes of this collection remind us that behind every struggle lies a human story deserving of dignity, compassion and understanding. They highlight the importance of listening to women’s voices, recognising hidden suffering and acknowledging the courage required to overcome adversity.

As an author, researcher and Ambassador of Peace, I believe literature is more than storytelling. It is a powerful instrument of empathy, education, social awareness and ultimately peace.

“Borders may separate nations, but they cannot separate human emotions. Love, loss, loneliness and hope belong to all humanity. Through understanding one another’s stories, we begin to build a world founded upon dignity, compassion and peace.”

Dr Sangita Swechcha’s dedication to bringing Nepali literature and human experiences to international audiences contributes meaningfully to intercultural understanding and reminds us that every human story deserves to be heard.
