Kathmandu, 26 Poush 2082: The contemporary poetry collection Gen Z Era, written by literary figure and creator Nirmal Kumar Thapa, was officially launched at Taj Palace in the capital.

Speaking at the book launch ceremony, guest fiction designer Kumar Nagarkoti described his relationship with Thapa not as a ‘mechanical or formal friendship’, but as that of a true companion who always stands by one’s side.

‘Nirmal ji is my friend. We have spent many moments together, and the memories of those beautiful times are still fresh,’ he said. ‘I like to call him “sathi”, not “friend”, in the same way I prefer to say “kitaab” instead of “book”.’

Recalling their first meeting, Nagarkoti added in his characteristic style that they met years ago at a zebra crossing. ‘Since then, we have shared many journeys together. He appears and disappears in my life like an incarnation – and I like that style,’ he remarked.

Another speaker, former Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal, said that Thapa’s poetry represents a living history of the present era.

‘This collection vividly describes what we as a nation have recently experienced,’ he said. ‘I also read the poem written about the police – it is very powerful. This is a book everyone should read thoughtfully.’

Khanal further stated that Nepal is currently going through a phase of political transformation and experimentation with new forces, and that Gen Z Era gives voice to this generation.

At the event, poems by Thapa were recited by youth icon and motivator Abdus Miya, UK-based writer and social worker Dhruva KC, young entrepreneur Sudarshan Bikram Karki, and poet Prajita Darnal. All of them extended their best wishes to the author.

The programme also featured a musical performance based on the theme of Gen Z Era by artist Anup Timilsina and his group, while popular singer Junu Rijal Kafle presented a melodious ghazal.

The collection includes 22 poems and has been published by Nepal Centre International. The book is priced at NPR 500 and will be available at major bookshops across the country as well as online worldwide, according to the publisher.
