Avatar Dining Owner Suresh KC Raises Over £5,446 for Flood Relief in Nepal

Leicester, UK – Suresh KC, a Nepali origin social activist and successful entrepreneur based in the UK, has raised NPR 1,111,111 (£5,446.62) to support people affected by devastating floods in Nepal.

KC, who operates Avatar Dining in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, organised a charity dinner at the restaurant on Monday. The funds raised, combined with his personal contribution, will be sent to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Relief Fund through the Nepali Embassy in London in the coming days.

The charity dinner raised more than £4,000, equivalent to over NPR 800,000. Local philanthropists Simon and Charlotte contributed £1,500, while Avatar Dining contributed £1,000 and the restaurant staff added approximately £500. KC also made a personal contribution to bring the total support to NPR 1,111,111.

More than 100 people, including members of the local British community and restaurant customers, attended the charity event.

KC expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended, donated and supported the initiative, saying he wanted to do whatever he could to help his homeland during this difficult time.

Professor Milan Gyawali of De Montfort University, who is also a social worker, highlighted the damage caused by the floods in Nepal and the need for support for relief and recovery efforts.

Originally from Gulmi, Nepal, KC has lived in the UK since 2002. He established Avatar Dining in Market Harborough in 2015, and the business now also operates another branch in Lutterworth.

KC and Avatar Dining have a long history of supporting charitable and community initiatives. Last year, a charity event coordinated by KC for Gulmi Jilla Samaj UK raised approximately £11,000 for a disability-related cause.

He has also supported charities including Links to Nepal and New Future of Nepal through fundraising dinners and other initiatives. In addition, KC has held leadership roles in several prominent Nepali community organisations in the UK, including Gulmi Jilla Samaj UK, Sajha Nepali Samaj UK and NRNA UK.
