MP Vidushi Signs Historic Nelson Mandela Legacy Book at London City Hall

London, 2 October 2026- A significant moment in the continuing international legacy of Nelson Mandela took place at City Hall, London, this morning, when Nepalese Member of Parliament Vidushi Rana signed the historic House of Commons Nelson Mandela Legacy Book.

The signing took place in the presence of Howard Dawber OBE, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, and Nic Careem, Founder and Custodian of the House of Commons Legacy to Nelson Mandela.

Also present was Rabindra Lamichhane, a British-based Nepalese businessman and founder of fashion brand Gini, who joined the gathering to mark the occasion and celebrate Mandela’s enduring international legacy.

The leather-bound Legacy Book, embossed with the House of Commons Coat of Arms, contains more than 700 handwritten messages and signatures from people from across public life who have paid tribute to Nelson Mandela and his extraordinary contribution to humanity.

Following the signing, MP Vidushi Rana said: “It was a great honour to sign the House of Commons Nelson Mandela Legacy Book in London. Nelson Mandela’s message of peace, equality, justice and reconciliation continues to inspire people across the world. I am proud to add my message from Nepal to this remarkable historic record and to help carry his legacy forward for future generations.”

Howard Dawber OBE, Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, said: “London is proud to be a city that celebrates Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary contribution to our shared humanity. The House of Commons Nelson Mandela Legacy Book is a remarkable record of the respect and affection in which he continues to be held around the world. It was a pleasure to witness MP Vudushi Rana adding her message today, bringing another international voice to this important legacy.”

Nic Careem, who founded and organised the original House of Commons tribute to Nelson Mandela, said: “This book has become much more than a collection of signatures. It is a living historical record of the extraordinary impact Nelson Mandela had on people from every background, country and generation. Today’s signing by MP Rana adds another important international voice to that story and demonstrates that Mandela’s message continues to resonate across continents and generations.”

The presence of Rabindra Jung Limichhane, a British-based Nepalese entrepreneur and founder of fashion brand Gini, also highlighted the strong cultural, community and business links between the Nepalese community in Britain and the wider international Mandela legacy.

The City Hall meeting forms part of Nic Careem’s continuing work to develop the Nelson Mandela Legacy Project, bringing together education, culture and international engagement inspired by Mandela’s values of peace, justice, equality, reconciliation and human dignity.

The Legacy Book continues to grow as international leaders, politicians, diplomats, community leaders and other distinguished figures are invited to add their own handwritten messages.

The latest signing adds another chapter to the remarkable story of the House of Commons Legacy Book and its journey from Westminster to an increasingly international audience.

Nic Careem is also developing plans for the Nelson Mandela Legacy Festival India, bringing together cultural, educational and civic activities celebrating Mandela’s historic relationship with India and his global legacy.

The House of Commons Nelson Mandela Legacy Book is expected to form a central part of this continuing international legacy project.
