Greenford Knights champions of A-Star Nepal Basketball League 2026 finals

London – Greenford Knights have won the final match of the fifth edition of ‘A-Star Nepal Basketball League 2026’, one of the largest sports competitions organized by the Nepali community outside Nepal.

Greenford Knights won by defeating Sandhurst Knicks in the final match held at Brunel University Sports Centre in London on Saturday (July 4).

Min Darlami, Managing Director of A-Star Mortgages UK and A-Star Real Estates UK, the main sponsors of the league, handed over the trophy to the winning team. Similarly, Nepal Foods, Anugrah Jewellers and others presented gift hampers to the winning players. Former Mayor of London Borough of Hounslow, Cllr Bishnu Bahadur Gurung, President of Tamu Dhee UK Jumkaji Gurung and President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) UK Bimala Sene also presented awards to the winners and runners-up players.

The competition saw an interesting match between veteran teams Slammers and Brigade Boys Club (BBC). Similarly, in the women’s category, Women’s Ballers Club defeated London Hotshots.

Anusha Malla, the national captain of the Nepali women’s basketball team, who came from Nepal to watch the program, also presented awards to the winners.

She said that all the games were of a very high standard. “It was very happy to see Nepalis playing outside Nepal. Enjoy it when you have time, keep playing, follow your passion,” she said.

Semi-final matches held on June 21

The equation of the title clash of the competition was completed with the exciting semi-final matches held at the Springwest Academy in Feltham on June 21. In the first semi-final, Sandhurst Knicks defeated Hampshire Hoopers by a competitive score of 82-77 to book their place in the final. Similarly, in the second semi-final, Greenford Knights secured their place in the final with a stunning victory over Ballers Slammers by a wide margin of 109-77.

The league coordinator, Sarthak Gurung, said that the grand competition between Sandhurst Knicks and Greenford Knights on Saturday saw the best level of basketball skills displayed this year and the match was very exciting.

Similarly, Nepal Basketball UK President Rupak Gurung expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the players, volunteers, main sponsor A Star Mortgages, including all the sponsors and spectators who continuously contributed to taking the competition to this height and making it a success.

Min Darlami, Managing Director of A-Star Mortgages UK and A-Star Real Estates UK, the main sponsors of the league, thanked everyone who helped make the league a grand success. He expressed his belief that such events would inspire the youth based in the UK to engage in creative work and also help in their personality development. “We are always with the youth,” he said.


This year, 11 teams for men and 2 teams for women competed for the title in the league competition organized by the Nepal Basketball League UK in collaboration with the Women’s Bowlers Club. The competition, which began on 15th March 2026, is considered to have played an important role in bringing talented young players of Nepali origin from across the UK on one platform and increasing the attraction towards sports and brotherhood.
