Danphe Nepal TV apologises to The British College

Kathmandu: Danphe Nepal TV, which had broadcast a series of false video contents against The British College located in Thapathali, has formally apologized to the college.

Dipesh Kumar Jaiswal, Director of Danphe Nepal Media, sent an official letter to The British College acknowledging the mistake made by the media outlet. Danphe Nepal Media Pvt. Ltd., registered with the Department of Information and listed with the Press Council Nepal admitted that the contents were broadcast without proper verification of facts.

According to the letter sent to the college, some video materials related to The British College were aired without fully understanding the facts and reality, and without conducting necessary fact-checking. Danphe Media stated that those contents were prepared based on pressure and information received from certain individuals and students.

“Danphe Media takes full responsibility for this act. We accept this as our own mistake and wrongful action,” the letter said. Danphe Media also offered a heartfelt and unconditional apology to the college management, teachers, students, parents, and all concerned for the mental, social, and institutional harm caused.

Earlier, it had come to light that Vivek Dhakal—who has been accused of attempting to extort NPR 3 million by threatening The British College—had also cited Danphe Media in the matter. Dhakal, a former student of the College, allegedly used the media to gain undue financial benefit. He is currently in police custody, and legal proceedings are underway against him.

Similarly, Priyanka Nepal and Sajina Khadka, who had been spreading misinformation against the College, are also reported to have provided false information to Danphe Media. The letter acknowledges that the media made a mistake by accepting others’ statements as truth.

As a corrective measure, Danphe Nepal Media has announced its decision to remove all videos and materials related to The British College from all of its digital platforms.
