London — The 6th NRN Global Health Conference 2026 will be held on December 4 and 5, 2026, in the historic city of Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province, Nepal.

The event is being organised by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), in collaboration with the government of Madhesh Pradesh and Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) with the support of the Government of Nepal, various institutions and local bodies in Madhesh province, the organisers said.

Under the overarching theme “Reverse Migration with Global Collaboration,” the landmark event aims to channel the knowledge, skills, experience, and investments of Nepali healthcare professionals working abroad into strengthening Nepal’s national healthcare system.

Rather than viewing the migration of health professionals solely as a loss of human resources, the conference will explore actionable ways to transform migration into an opportunity for knowledge transfer, capacity building, innovation, diaspora investment, and health system enhancement.

The two-day conference will convene government representatives, doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, public health experts, researchers, academicians, international organizations, development partners, private sector leaders, and Nepali health professionals from across the globe.

Nepali healthcare experts and professionals around the world have been making significant contributions internationally. The conference seeks to align their global expertise with Nepal’s national health priorities and local needs. Key priority areas include:

-Creating avenues for diaspora health workers to contribute directly to Nepal’s health sector.

-Establishing partnerships between international hospitals and universities.

-Expanding medical education, fellowships, specialist training, and visiting faculty programs.

-Promoting joint research, innovation, digital health, telemedicine, and technology transfer.

-Encouraging diaspora investment in healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved regions like Madhesh Province.

-Developing practical diaspora engagement strategies and a long-term national framework for global health collaboration.

Choosing Janakpurdham as the host city highlights a strategic shift away from Kathmandu-centric initiatives, fostering direct collaboration with provincial and local health systems, the organisers said.

Key Conference Outcomes & Initiatives:

-Janakpur Declaration on Reverse Migration and Global Health Collaboration 2026: A landmark document establishing a shared framework for joint action among governments, universities, health institutions, development partners, and global Nepali health networks.

-Janakpur Global Health Network: A sustainable platform created to maintain ongoing collaboration in research, education, specialist exchanges, digital health, mentorship, and healthcare innovation.

Prof. Dr. Sunil Sah, Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee, called upon healthcare experts in Nepal and across the globe to gather in Janakpurdham, emphasizing the need to turn healthcare migration into a transformative opportunity for Nepal’s health system.

Prof. Dr. Padam Simkhada, Dean of Global Impact and Research at the University of Chester, UK, and Prof. Dr. Ankur Shah, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee and Vice-Chancellor of Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal, expressed optimism that the conference will lay a durable foundation for long-term collaboration between global Nepali expertise and Nepal’s healthcare sector.

Chair of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) International Coordination Council, Dr Hem Raj Sharma, said that the NRNA has been organising Global Knowledge Conference and Global Health Conference to utilise the knowledge, skills and network of NRN scientists, professionals and academic for Nepal’s transformation. He called upon all to support the sixth NRN Global Health Conference and make it a grand success.

The core message of the conference is Nepal’s transition from “Brain Drain” to “Brain Circulation” and ultimately to “Brain Gain.” Connecting the knowledge, skills, and resources of the global Nepali health workforce back home will help build a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system in Nepal.

This is the first time Global Nepali Health Conference is being organised in Nepal. The first Global Nepali Health Conference was organised in Atlanta, Georgia (US) in 2019, second mostly virtually (due to the Covid 19 pandemic) in 2020, third in London in 2021, fourth in Sydney in 2022, and fifth in Tokyo in 2023.
