LONDON, UK – Pioneer designer Sanyukta Shrestha marked a decisive shift in ethical luxury with the debut of the ‘VAJRA’ bag, the signature piece of her SS26 collection, “The Newars, 1901,” at London Fashion Week. This groundbreaking accessory, crafted entirely from mango agro-waste, has been immediately championed by superstar actress and humanitarian Jacqueline Fernandez, catapulting this piece of sustainable innovation into the luxury spotlight.

Seamlessly integrating innovation and ethical craftsmanship, the ‘VAJRA’ is set to be the next “IT bag.” It is the world’s first handbag to combine sustainability with spiritual significance, featuring a meticulously hand-carved Vajra handle by artisans in Nepal, which directly preserves ancestral craft and supports local communities. The bag is exquisitely crafted from Aamati Green, a proprietary, durable, plant-based leather alternative made from mango agro-waste from India. Up to 40% of India’s 20 million-tonne annual mango harvest is wasted, releasing potent greenhouse gases. Aamati Green transforms this discarded material using innovative biopolymer solutions, avoiding plastics such as PU and PVC. It is 100% cruelty-free, plastic-free, uses minimal water, and biodegrades faster than conventional vegan leathers.

Named after the Vajra, the bag carries deep spiritual significance. This powerful symbol from South Asian traditions, central to Nepal’s Newar culture, represents the indomitable power of a diamond and the irresistible force of a thunderbolt, perfectly capturing the philosophy: “Sustainability meets spirituality.”

“The shift from mango waste to inner strength perfectly captures my philosophy. It’s about transformation—finding its incredible, pure potential. Its luxury is rooted in holistic living. As someone with South Asian heritage, the blend of the Vajra symbol with this modern material speaks volumes. It connects me to ancient wisdom while stepping into a sustainable future,” said Jacqueline Fernandez.

Designer Shrestha added, “I want the woman who carries a VAJRA bag to feel more than just elevated and stylish; I want her to feel a sense of inner power rooted in holistic, conscious living. Jacqueline’s choice is the ultimate validation that true aspirational luxury must be defined by profound social and ecological responsibility. I am thrilled to launch this journey with such a dedicated advocate for sustainability and spiritual health. This is a blissful feeling I am ready to share with every woman in the world.”

The ‘VAJRA’ bag is a messenger of peace and a tool for conversation, carrying a critical message of environmental awareness. Furthermore, Shrestha has pledged to dedicate 10% of all proceeds from the ‘VAJRA’ bag to preserving ancestral Nepalese crafts and to a charity supporting the education of homeless orphaned children. The launch signals a major, impactful trajectory for the global fashion industry.
